Bay Marine of Barrington, Rhode Island has been a HydroComp client for many years. We have provided a variety of powering analysis services to Bay Marine for their work boats, fishing boats, passenger ferries, and research vessels – including a new vessel for the University of Delaware and a 130′ double-ended ferry.

Our participation in their R/V project began at the earliest stages of design, with a comparative analysis of monohull vs SWATH hull form options, speed & power estimates, and comment on various propulsion options. As the design matured, our tasks became more focused to include examination of its proposed azimuthing podded drive, and technical review of the model testing program and results.

Our powering analysis for the double-ender called on HydroComp’s experience with unusual hull forms and non-standard propeller performance (to account for the forward propeller operating in “tractor” mode). One concern we addressed was the possible ventilation of the forward propeller under dynamic maneuvering conditions.
